In business since 1871, Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. and is the main insurance company in North America for the Sun Life Financial group of companies. The company operates in the United States, Canada and Bermuda, and is the parent company of subsidiaries in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.

In the U.S., where it has operated since 1895, Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada offers a wide array of insurance products to individuals and businesses, including group and individual life insurance, and group disability and medical stop-loss insurance. The company is licensed in 49 states (all except for the State of New York), the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (the "Company") is a stock life insurance company organized under the laws of Canada, using the State of Michigan as its port of entry to conduct its United States branch business. The Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. (SLC), a corporation organized under the laws of Canada. SLC is a reporting company under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 with common shares listed on the Toronto, New York, London and Manila stock exchanges. The Company is licensed to do business in 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and is an accredited reinsurer in New York. Its principal place of business is Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners ("NAIC") assigned NAIC Company Code No. 80802 to the United States Branch of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.
